Ernest Silva

Professor of Visual Arts

Professor Silva’s work will be featured in a collaborative exhibition of the 2006/2007 SD Art Prize recipients at the L Street Fine Gallery.  The exhibit opens on Saturday, June 30 and continues until September 30.  To learn more about his work click here.

Ernest Silva joined the faculty of the Visual Arts Department in 1979. Silva studied at the University of Rhode Island where he received a BFA and obtained an MFA from Tyler School of Art of Temple University in 1974. Within the Department he teaches painting, drawing, sculpture, Introduction to Art-Making and graduate classes. Silva has been exhibiting his paintings and sculptures since 1972. His work is concerned with the use of vernacular references to construct a visual language. He has been included in over 45 one-person exhibitions that include New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego and Europe, as well as numerous group shows.
