Congratulations to the recipients of the 2008-2009 Warren College Undergraduate Research Scholarships!

Valentin Barsan

barsan

Valentin Barsan is a senior in UC San Deigo’s Bioengineering Premedical program. Vali is actively involved in the San Diego community as a high school varsity swimming coach, on-campus researcher, and aspiring medical student. With his free time, Vali enjoys water polo, surfing, and swimming. From his summer research at Stanford University, Vali looks to apply innovative skills and bring new talent into Dr. Shu Chien's Bioengineering lab for his research project on Niches for Stem Cell Differentiation.

Amanda Graham

graham

Amanda Graham is entering her senior year at UCSD. She has been very involved on campus through Warren Student Affairs and Residential Life, and the experiences she gained through the various involvements have been some of her favorite in college so far. If she had more spare time, she would use it to play tennis, do yoga, bake, read, and watch YouTube videos. Amanda is very passionate about the issue of the Death Penalty in the United States, and is looking forward to the opportunity to explore this topic through her research in the coming year. She hopes to attend law school in the Fall of 2009 and pursue a career in social justice law.

Jonathan Reuter

reuter

Jonathan Reuter is a first year student at UC San Diego from Agoura Hills, California majoring in Bioengineering. He is currently a Warren College Undergraduate Research scholar conducting research in Dr. Chien's Vascular Molecular Bioengineering Laboratory. His project focuses on elucidating the role of CSK in regulating cell signaling and cardiovascular homeostasis. He hopes to pursue a Ph.D. and then a professorship after graduating from UCSD. In addition to research, he is an active member in the biomedical community, including the Biomedical Engineering Society.

David Wong

wong

David Allen Wong is a 4th year Chemical Engineer for the 2008-2009 school year. He currently works with Dr. Jan Talbot on the topic “Mass Transfer Properties of an Impinging Jet Electrode.” From his research, David hopes to further understand how to effectively use an Impinging Jet Electrope to electroplate films that incorporate nanoparticles. Aside from his studies and research, David serves as the Vice President External for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AlChE). In his free time, David enjoys doing community service with Circle K International, and spending quality time with friends and family.
