FAQs - Holds Placed on Your Record

[return to FAQs]

What does an Orientation (ORNT) Hold mean?

An Orientation Hold is placed on your record once you are accepted into the college. This hold is removed once you attend the on-campus orientation program.

What does an Enrollment (ENRL) Hold mean?

An Enrollment Hold is placed on your record immediately after you attend the on-campus orientation program to ensure that you are properly prepared to enroll in classes. This hold is lifted once your assigned Academic Counselor approves your class selection.

What does an Academic (ACAD) Hold mean?

What does a Subject A (SUBA) Hold mean?

You need to speak to an academic counselor at (858) 534-4350 or on the first floor of the Computer Science and Engineering Building (EBU3), room 1137 to find out the reason for the hold.

What does an Probation (MNRW) Hold mean?

Can I register for classes with an academic hold?

Yes, the only task you are unable to do is pay fees. Your hold may be released after grades are reviewed for the quarter, except for MNRW hold if you have been academically dismissed or have not been in to the Academic Advising Office to sign an academic contract necessary on account of probationary status. If you have further questions regarding this, submit your concerns to the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) or contact Academic Advising (858) 534-4350.

Why do I still have an ACADEMIC HOLD on my record after an academic contract has been signed?

After signing an academic contract, an ACADEMIC HOLD with a future date is placed on your record so that the Committee can view your grades for final action at the end of the quarter. For example, a TWO-QUARTER academic contract would entail a hold at the end of the 2nd quarter. This hold is not in effect until that date.

I have a Hold on my record due to my probationary status from last quarter. Will this prevent me from pre-enrolling for classes?

Before signing your academic contract, you had a MNRW (May Not Re-enter W/o college permission) Hold placed on your record. This Hold will prevent you from conducting any University business. After you have met with an academic counselor and a contract is signed, an ACAD Hold with a future date will be placed on your record. Since it is a future date Hold, it should not affect your ability to conduct University business such as dropping classes, adding classes, paying tuition, etc.

If I am currently out of town, how can an Academic contract be signed to remove the Hold on my record?

You may come in for Walk-in Advising and sign an academic contract once you return to campus or you may print the contract from the college website. Complete the contract, including the courses you will be taking, sign, date and mail or fax (858-534-7391) the signed contract to the Academic Advising Office. Upon returning to campus, you must meet with an academic counselor during Walk-in Advising to further discuss your academic status.

I'm changing the courses I originally declared on my academic contract, is it necessary to contact Academic Advising?

Yes. Please come through Walk-in Advising to inform us of any changes to your academic contract.

What if grades are reviewed after the fee payment deadline?

You'll receive a fee waiver for the $50 late fee penalty. The fee waiver will be sent to the Registrar.

How will my academic hold affect my financial aid?

Contact the Financial Aid Office.
