Welcome 2008-2009 Academic Year Students!Warren College was founded in 1974 and named in honor of Earl Warren, former governor of California and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. His leadership as governor and Chief Justice is remembered for the broad-based public support he achieved during a period of U.S. history rocked by dramatic changes. Despite the charged political climate, he won a place in history as well as the gubernatorial election for sweeping the Republican, Democratic, and Progressive primaries – a feat which earned him the leadership of the state unopposed. As Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, his tenure was marked by momentous accomplishments such as the legal end to racial segregation in public schools. Warren College strives to sustain his legacy by creating a supportive community, preparing students for their intellectual and professional life after graduation and in encouraging them to be active participants in all that goes on around them at the university. Warren College wants its graduates to have a breadth of experiences and knowledge of the world. Through Student Affairs each individual has the opportunity to participate in campus governance, multicultural enrichment, leadership development and recreation. Academically, students are required to take courses across the three disciplines of the sciences, humanities and social sciences. Every major on campus is found at Warren College. Warren College undergraduates appreciate the balance afforded by its general requirements, for they provide the opportunity to explore the range of disciplines available at a world-class research university yet allow ample time for in-depth study of their particular areas of interest. As the university is ever mindful of a changing and challenging world, Warren College encourages students to pursue the many programs that are available for study at universities across the globe. And, since we know that sometimes it’s possible to have too much of a good thing, Warren College Academic Advising is here to assist you in choosing from the range of possibilities at UCSD. Our individualized counseling sessions and academic workshops help our students make the most of the stellar intellectual, social and professional opportunities that Warren College students enjoy.
