About Student Affairs

At Warren College, we understand the value of life both in and outside of the classroom. We are dedicated to working with you to develop experiences that support your classroom efforts as well as expand your learning opportunities beyond the walls of the classroom by providing activities and services that enhance your student experience and exemplify our motto Toward a Life in Balance.

Mission

The mission of Warren College Student Affairs is to develop balanced leaders and engaged citizens.

Vision

We provide opportunities for student engagement, learning and discovery in a diverse environment that will optimize the university experience and prepare students to serve a global community.

Values

We provide opportunities for student involvement and leadership to foster growth and development and better prepare students as they emerge as effective leaders. The Student Affairs staff works with students to develop programs and services that are designed around the following developmental goals:

Intrapersonal, interpersonal, and intergroup competencies
Intrapersonal, interpersonal, and intergroup competencies include self-awareness and the ability to engage in social interactions with other individuals and across diverse social identity groups. They provide students with a strong, adaptive sense of self and the flexibility to effectively interact with, and be sensitive to, the ideas and perspective of others.  Students better understand themselves through reflecting on their experiences, accepting others, and engaging in meaningful ways with one another honestly, respectfully, and responsibly.
Social Justice and Community Responsibility
An educated, engaged, and responsible citizenry is essential to a just society.  Today's world demands knowledge of historical inequities, sensitivity to global perspectives, and an appreciation for diverse cultures.  Responsible citizens positively impact society through ethical and impact-sensitive actions in settings ranging from local communities to global arenas.
Personal Skill Development
Personal skill development enhances success in college and beyond. Personal skill development includes emotional intelligence, ethical decision-making, time management, self reliance, and self awareness.  A well-rounded student is resilient, independent and interdependent, and capable of evaluating choices and making decisions.  Planning for one's future career and maintaining balance and wellness are important aspects of one's personal skill development.
Effective Communication
Effective communication is essential for students to present ideas, articulate complex thoughts, and convey intelligence with confidence. This involves the ability to listen, process information, express understanding or uncertainty that is respected by and respectful of others, and welcomes the exchange of ideas with others from diverse backgrounds.
Intellectual Growth
Intellectual growth refers to the development of critical thinking and analytical skills, confidence in and commitment to one's own ideas while being aware of one's own cultural biases and openness to ideas different than or in conflict with one's own including those rooted in different cultures.  Hallmarks of intellectual growth are intellectual curiosity, the ability to understand the larger context of an issue, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Leadership Skills
Leadership skills enable students to lead effectively in a complex and global society.  Leadership skills include the ability to envision, lead and follow, facilitate change, build consensus, motivate and inspire others, and understand and embrace diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and groups.  Skilled leaders think critically, creatively, and strategically; are resourceful, analyze problems, accomplish goals, and act decisively with authenticity and social responsibility.  In addition, skilled leaders understand their leadership style, inspire leadership development in others, and can articulate a leadership philosophy.
