Should I attend the Parent and Family Orientation Program?

Parent and family members are encouraged to attend orientation. Your participation can enhance your new students' transition to UCSD. This orientation is designed specifically for family members and guardians to help you learn about all the services we provide to students at UC San Diego. The program includes presentations by staff including but not limited to: student life, academic advising, counseling and psychological services, and an opportunity to hear from campus services and departments.

How do I register for the Parent and Family Orientation Program?

You will receive a link to register for the Parent Orientation Program AFTER your student has completed the online enrollment process and registered for their First Year Orientation Program. As part of the registration process, your student will be asked to provide an email address for a parent/guardian to which an invitation and unique link to the parent registration site that coincides with their orientation program will be sent. If you do not receive an electronic invitation, ask your student which email address they submitted via the registration system.  For additional information, visit the Parent and Family Orientation website.

How do I know if I am registered for the Parent and Family Orientation Program?

You are registered for the Parent Orientation Program if you have completed the online registration and credit card payment processes by the set deadline. Everyone who has completed the online registration and payment processes receives a confirmation email.  We ask all attendees to bring the registration confirmation with you to Orientation just in case there are any concerns about your registration at check-in.

If you have questions about your registration status email wow@ucsd.edu.

What if my student changes their orientation session?

If your student makes a change to the date of their First Year Orientation session, any family members who are signed up for a corresponding Parent and Family Orientation session will need to log back into the registration system to change their session date.  You will NOT be automatically moved into the new session.

Will I see my student during Orientation?

No, the First Year and Parent and Family Orientation Programs are two separate programs. The sessions run concurrently but participants do not have an opportunity to meet until after both sessions are over.  Orientation participants are encouraged to make sure they have everything that they will need for the day prior to checking in for their respective programs.

The First Year Orientation Program is a comprehensive program designed to help incoming students meet other new Warren students, discover their campus support network, and successfully transition to life at UC San Diego. The First Year Orientation program is for students only.  The Parent and Family Orientation Program allows the parents, guardians, and family members of incoming first year students to learn about Warren College and UC San Diego resources and have an opportunity to interact with Warren staff and departmental representatives.

If you do not plan to attend the Parent and Family Orientation Program: We encourage parents, guardians, and family members to allow their student to fully participate in the Orientation Program so they have the opportunity to connect with other students and get a feel for the campus.  Only registered students will be allowed into the First Year Orientation program.  If you do not  wish to attend the optional Parent and Family Orientation Program, you are encouraged to explore the city that your student will call home for the next few years. The Parent and Family Programs website has information about a variety of campus and local resources in La Jolla and San Diego.
