Do you have a question about commencement or graduation? See our FAQs link or contact us.

All Campus Commencement

UC San Diego is reviving a time-honored tradition to celebrate and unify all graduates together.  A campuswide commencement featuring an internationally-renowned speaker will be held in tandem with the undergraduate and graduate school ceremonies. We invite all graduates, families and friends to attend both ceremonies to fully experience the pomp and circumstance, and joy and pride, that marks one of the most memorable times in a student’s life. This two-part celebration will include the 90-minute All Campus Commencement during which Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla will officially confer degrees by academic division upon graduates gathered as one student body on RIMAC Field. In addition, the six undergraduate colleges, Graduate Division and professional schools will host personalized Graduation Ceremonies for their students, where graduates will be recognized by name as they walk across the stage. We can’t wait to celebrate with you! Learn more at commencement.ucsd.edu.

Cap & Gown Pick-Up

Pick up your Cap and Gown on the first floor of the UCSD Bookstore during regular Bookstore business hours. For more information on pick-up and pricing, go here. For details on commencement package options, visit the UC San Diego Bookstore website.

Applying for Graduation

Information on filing for graduation can be found on the Academic Advising website. Please note that graduation and commencement are two distinct terms:

  • Graduation is the term used to describe when a student has completed all requirements and his/her degree has been officially posted to the academic record.
  • Commencement is the annual ceremony in which eligible students participate. Participation in the commencement ceremony does not constitute official graduation from the University.

To participate in the Warren College commencement ceremony, you must have at least 135 units completed.  Degree and Diploma Applications (DDAs) must be filed by the deadline if you would like your name to be listed in the commencement program.

Flowers for Graduates

Leis and bouquets will be sold at commencement. However, you are encouraged to preorder for pickup before the ceremony so that you can wear your leis onstage and in pictures. Order directly from Graduation Day Flowers.

Parking will be extremely limited. We strongly recommend carpooling, ride-share, and use of public transportation. More detailed information about transportation and parking, including ADA access, will be available in May.

Event attendees who have an accessibility need will be allowed to park in Hopkins Parking Structure. Please enter the campus from Campus Point Drive off of Genesee Avenue and follow the direction of the parking attendants. Motorized cart service will be available for individuals requiring assistance and one guest. Able-bodied guests will be asked to walk and meet their party at the entrance to RIMAC Field or RIMAC Arena nearby.
