End Of Year Awards & Opportunities

Earl Warren College, in partnership with a number of UC San Diego departments and organizations, presents several awards to students who show dedication to their studies and a commitment to the activities and mission of Warren College. Students are encouraged to apply for or nominate others for the following awards and opportunities for 2017:

Apply to be the Warren College Commencement Student Speaker

Apply to be the Warren College Commencement Student Speaker - Deadline April 10, 2017

Each year, Warren College selects a student speaker for the Commencement ceremony. Interested Warren College students are invited to apply and audition for the role of student speaker. To apply, submit a written copy of your speech via e-mail to Warren College Student Affairs at warrendean@ucsd.edu. Remarks should be limited to 5‐7 minutes in length. A panel of faculty, staff, and students will select the student speaker. Students must be participating in the Commencement ceremony for the current year and in good academic standing to be considered.

Submissions must include:

  • Student's full name
  • Phone number
  • PID 

Students will be invited to audition with their speech before a student speaker is selected.  

Awards for Graduating Seniors

Outstanding Senior AwardDeadline April 7, 2017

Each year the UCSD Alumni Association presents this award to an outstanding senior from each of the University's undergraduate colleges.  The student selected for this award will sit on stage at the Warren College Commencement program and will be invited to a reception hosted by UC San Diego Alumni.

Qualifications:

  • Must be an Earl Warren College Student
  • Graduating Senior
  • Combination of academic distinction, campus leadership, and significant contributions in service to the University and community

Awards for Continuing Students

Oceanids Service & Leadership Award - Deadline April 7, 2017

This award is presented annually by the Oceanids, one of the longest running social and service organizations at UCSD. The Oceanids Service and Leadership Award recognizes outstanding service to the UCSD campus community, on either the college or campus-wide level.  One student is selected to receive this award annually.  This award will be presented at the Warren College Student Leadership Celebration in mid-May.

Qualifications:

  • Must be an Earl Warren College Student
  • Junior standing (90 credits completed)
  • Demonstrated service to the campus through significant participation in student governance, student organizations, work on campus advisory boards, etc. 

Ben Sumner Memorial Scholarship - Deadline April 7, 2017

Warren College Student Council (WCSC) presents this scholarship annually to one Warren College student for service to Warren College and the outside community.  

Ben Sumner was a respected and loved member of the Warren Community before his untimely passing in March 2006. During his tenure in Warren College, Ben served his fellow students admirably as the Freshman Senator and then as the Website Coordinator for Warren College Student Council. He also served as the Chief of Staff to the Associated Students Vice President of Academic Affairs. Along with his commitment to leadership, Ben maintained an extremely high GPA with a double major in Computer Science and Philosophy. His drive for excellence in both leadership and academics are embodied in this scholarship that bears his name and memory.

Qualifications:

  • Must be an Earl Warren College Student
  • Junior standing (90 units completed)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6 as of Winter Quarter
  • Show service to Warren and/or outside communities, as expressed in a personal essay and resume

WCSC Leadership Scholarship Deadline April 7, 2017

The WCSC Leadership Scholarship was established to provide students with monetary aid in their collegiate efforts. This scholarship is given on a yearly basis and is awarded to one student based on excellence in academics, co-curricular activities, and service to the Warren and/or outside communities. 

Qualifications:

  • Must be an Earl Warren College Student
  • Junior standing (90 units completed)
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 as of Winter Quarter
  •  Show service to Warren and/or outside communities, as expressed in a personal essay and resume
