Returning to UC San Diego

Students who have not been enrolled in classes at UC San Diego for two or more consecutive quarters must request to Request to Return to UC San Diego by the quarterly deadline.

The process is dependent on how you left the University:

Left in Good Academic Standing

  1. Address any holds on your record.
  2. Submit a Request to Return to UC San Diego
  3. The Registrar's Office will send an approval notification.
  4. Send official transcripts of all work completed at other institutions to the UC San Diego Admissions Office.

Left While on Academic Notice or Subject to Disqualification

  1. Meet with a Warren academic advisor to discuss your return to the University. View advising hours here
  2. Submit a Request to Return to UC San Diego.
    • The Registrar's Office will require approval from the Warren Academic Advising Office.
    • Once approved, the Registrar's Office will send an approval notification.
    • You will return to the University in the same academic status in which you left.
  3. Send official transcripts of all work completed at other institutions to the UC San Diego Admissions Office.

Academically Disqualified

Academically disqualified students are eligible to request to return after taking one academic year away from UC San Diego. Please note: returning after disqualification is available once per year for Fall Quarter only.

  1. Complete a Request to Return After Disqualification Proposal between April 1 and July 15. If you miss the July 15 deadline, you will need to wait another year to submit a proposal.
  2. Meet with Warren College Dean or Assistant Dean of Academic Advising.
  3. When the college approves your proposal, you will be eligible to submit a Request to Return to UC San Diego during the filing period for Fall Quarter.

During the readmitted Fall Quarter, you will be expected to earn a term GPA of at least 2.0.  If you do not meet this criteria, you will be disqualified again (with no option to appeal).

Prohibited from Further Enrollment for Not Meeting the Entry Level Writing Requirement

  1. Consult with the Analytical Writing Program Office at awp@ucsd.edu to discuss re-enrollment options.
  2. Once you have satisfied the terms for re-enrollment:
    • Submit a Request to Return to UC San Diego.
    • The Registrar's Office will require approval from the Warren Academic Advising Office.
    • Once approved, the Registrar's Office will send you an approval notification.
  3. Send official transcripts of all work completed at other institutions to the UC San Diego Admissions Office.
