UC San Diego Community Standards Board

Earl Warren College Representative Application

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Conduct Community Standards Board (CSB) representative for Warren College. The CSB handles all non-academic student conduct cases referred to a Student Conduct Review under the Student Conduct Procedures. The CSB is comprised of staff members, undergraduate students, and graduate & professional students.

For each Review, the Office of Student Conduct selects five CSB members to conduct the Review: two staff members and three students, with one of the staff members selected to serve as Chair. In some cases, a single Review Officer, who is a member of the Community Standards Board, handles the Review. The processes and procedures are the same for Reviews handled by a Review Officer as they are for CSB Reviews. In addition to the CSB, another staff member serves as the University Representative and presents the University’s perspective during the Review. A staff member from the Office of Student Conduct is also present to advise the Board about Review procedures and decision-making processes.

There are about 20 Reviews per year and allegations typically range from Housing & Residential Life Policy violations up to physical assault, theft, and other more serious violations. Board members usually participate in 1 to 4 Reviews a year, depending on their availability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing an understanding of the student conduct process
  • Participate in regular training sessions facilitated by the Office of Student Conduct and the Office of Student Legal Services.
  • Participating in Student Conduct Reviews per the procedures set forth in the Student Conduct Code
  • Upon concluding a Student Conduct Review, determining whether the Respondent student has violated this Code based on a Preponderance of the Evidence
  • Maintaining confidentiality related to all aspects of the Student Conduct Review process
  • Serving as a resource to the Warren College and UC San Diego student body through educational outreach programs, which aim to educate students about student conduct, the principles of community, and community standards and expectations

Qualifications:

  • Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student, registered in Warren College
  • Preference given to individuals in good academic and judicial standing
  • Ability to fulfill all stated responsibilities of the position indicated above
  • Ability to serve in this position for a minimum term of one academic year with the possibility of re-appointment

Benefits of the Position:

  • An opportunity to develop critical thinking skills and analyze information
  • Beneficial to improving communication skills
