Join us for a moderated conversation with distinguished Warren College Alumni on how the college motto of "toward a life in balance” has influenced their subsequent experiences and career paths. The panel will feature the following speakers:

  • Dean Haas (Class of 1983)

    Dean Haas (Class of 1983)

    Dean J. Haas is the principal/owner of DJH Coaching, an executive coaching and leadership consulting business. In his practice, Dean has worked with clients across the federal government including the Departments of State, Defense, Commerce, Treasury and Agriculture. In addition, he serves private sector clients in the business, financial, health care, high-tech, defense and NGO sectors. Dean has served as a U.S. Diplomat, Executive Director of the Bereau of Consular Affairs, head of the Entry Level Division of the Bureau of Human Resources, and Senior Advisor and Leadership Coach at the U.S. State Department's Foreign Service Institute (FSI). His passion for coaching and leadership led him to become a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) in 2012, completing the classroom and certification programs of the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI). With over 5,000 hours of coaching experience, he is certified by the International Coach Federation (ICF) as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC).

    Dean is a native of Chula Vista, California, and a graduate of Bonita Vista High School. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, he worked in local government in Chula Vista and at the County of San Diego. He graduated from UC San Diego/Warren College in 1983 with a B.A. in History and minors/concentrations in Economics and English.

  • Matthew G. Matzkin (Class of 1997)

    Matthew G. Matzkin (Class of 1997)

    Matt Matzkin is the EVP, Operations for Warner Bros. Unscripted Television and Warner Bros. Animation, overseeing unscripted and animated labels, including Warner Horizon Alternative, WBA, and Cartoon Network Studios. Matt is a 20-year veteran of Warner Bros. Television, initially hired as a Director of Legal Affairs before transitioning into business affairs, where he has negotiated for hit shows like Fuller House and The Big Bang Theory.

    He began his career at Katten Muchin & Zavis (now Katten Muchin Rosenman) in the litigation department, representing clients such as Universal Studios, Aerosmith, and Michael Jackson. During his law firm tenure, He published a number of articles relating to college athletes and their personal publicity rights, including Identity Intercepted. 

    Matt graduated from law school at the University of Southern California where he worked on the Southern California Law Review, including serving as Executive Senior Editor. He is also a proud Triton, having received his B.A. from Warren College at U.C. San Diego.

  • Julie Thompson (Class of 1994)

    Julie Thompson (Class of 1994)

    Julie is a dynamic, technical, results driven, and customer focused Product Management Executive with over 15 years of experience successfully growing packaged software and cloud-based start-ups. Julie has continually demonstrated the ability to build and manage large teams, as well as cultivate strong cross-functional relationships with leaders from the Sales, Engineering, Marketing, Customer Service and Finance teams. She is highly skilled in translating customer and market requirements into features and has experience breaking down complex problems into simple, clean actionable solutions. Julie has a proven and consistent track record of developing winning solutions across desktop, web and mobile.
