Move-In Information

Welcome to Warren!  We are excited to see you in just a few short weeks.  Please follow the steps below carefully to prepare for a smooth and safe move-in.  There is a lot of information here.  Please take the time to read this important information:

  1. Go to the My Room Assignment page to view your room assignment information. To view my MyRoomAssignment information:

Visit the Housing Contracts page:

  • Click on the Housing Portal and login with your campus credentials;
  • Select the 2021-22 Move-In Information & Processes;
  • Click on the 2021-22 MyRoomAssignment Portal link

You must reserve your testing and move-in date and time by Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. (PST).

  • Remember to read and indicate agreement to the Housing Assertions prior to accessing your Room Assignment information;
  • Make sure you are in compliance with the requirements of the Campus Vaccine Mandate. To comply, individuals are required to show proof of vaccination. Compliance with the policy is required by September 6, 2021, for UC San Diego. Compliance with the mandate requires individuals to be fully vaccinated (two weeks after final dose) or have a medical exemption, a religious exception, a disability exception or a deferral.
  • Requests for exception or deferral should be submitted as soon as possible, and submitted no later than Sept 2, 2021, so they are time-stamped to meet the Sept 6, 2021, deadline.
  • Please remember to view AND print or take a screenshot of your QwikPass with you at move-in to expedite your check-in process. The QwikPass will be available September 6th on the Housing Portal.  The QwikPass will include the following important information:

  • Your assigned room and bedspace;
  • Your campus mailing address (different than your assigned room and building);
  • Your Move-in Date and Time;
  • Your 4-digit Electronic Lock PIN CODE

  1. Planning and Packing

o   Pack essential items only. After moving in, purchase non-essential items online and ship them to campus through the Amazon Center  in the Price Center, or the smaller Amazon Locker located outside the Warren Student Activity Center (SAC) for easy pick-up.  To send your Amazon parcels to the Warren Amazon Locker, go to  and search by Locker Name.  Select “Warren” as your shipping address. You can also plan to visit our campus Target store to conveniently shop on site or pick up an order once you’ve seen your space on campus;

o   Bring your own hand cart or dolly if needed. A limited number of laundry bins will be available to check out for free for a 45 minute limit, however we suggest bringing your own equipment to maintain a contact-free move-in process.

  • Use rolling luggage and pack smaller boxes that are easy to carry.

o   Mail services will begin after you move in.

  • Your address and mailbox number will be listed on your Qwik Pass (available on the Housing Portal on September 6th);
  • Note that your room assignment (building name and suite or apartment number) is NOT your mailing address.

o   Download a map app (e.g. Google Maps) on your mobile device to help you navigate around campus.

o   Plan to arrive in one vehicle with no more than two (2) members of your moving party in order to allow for physical distancing.

  • This will be enforced at check-in and unloading. Please email us if you need to request an exception.
  • Everyone (regardless of vaccination status) must wear a face covering and maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet.

o   Remember your Qwik Pass! Take a screenshot of your pass to show campus staff on the day of your move-in.

o   Enroll in the Daily Student Symptom and Exposure screening tool and begin Student Symptom and Exposure Screening every day. If you have symptoms of COVID-19 and are in the San Diego area you will be offered SARV-CoV-2 testing.  Please visit for more information.  If you have symptoms and live outside of San Diego, seek care with your local provider. It is important that you are healthy when you arrive on campus.

o   If members of your moving party have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 on the day of move in, they will not be able to enter any residential buildings.

  1. On Your Self-Scheduled Move-In Day

o   PLEASE NOTE that your move-in date/time is designed to help make your move-in a smoother process. Any changes to that move-in date/time may result in longer waiting periods for traffic, parking and checking-in.

  • Arrive at the testing site at your scheduled time slot. Allow yourself ample time to navigate campus and account for traffic.
  •  Justice Lane Map. Justice Lane will be have limited parking. Do Not Park in Reserved Spaces.
  • Equality Lane will be closed for all thru traffic.
  • Once you are parked, only the resident will go to the Warren Student Activity Center (SAC) to first take your covid-19 test and then pick up your e-lock access card, bedroom key and check-in. All other family/friends please remain in vehicle.  You must have a valid ID (UCSD ID, Drivers License, or passport)  and QWIK pass on your phone (we suggest you take a screenshot of your QwikPass).
  • Once you arrive at your residential area, you will have a total of 45 minutes for move in
    1. You will have 45 minutes to unload at your residential community via curbside unloading;
    2. Unloading zones are limited, will be staffed and time enforced;

o          Warren Step One: Covid Testing

  • Once you have parked, follow the directional signs to the Courtroom at SAC where you will receive a COVID-19 test.  This will be done by a health care provider with an anterior nares swab collection.
  • If you arrive after the testing site closes, you will not be permitted to move in until the testing center opens the following morning.  You will need to stay the night at a local hotel at your expense.  No exceptions will be made
  • You are not allowed to be in your space until you have officially completed your Covid test, have officially checked-in at the Equality Room, and have picked up your key & access card.

 o         Warren Step Two: Check-in

  • After you are tested, you will follow the signage to check in to receive your key and access card.
  • Information will be provided on how to check out a laundry cart.

o   Find your building location on the Warren College Residential Complex Directory.

  • Regardless of vaccination status, you and your move-in party will need to be masked throughout the move-in process and when moving about campus.  Also please maintain physically distanced from others outside of your move in party.
  • All riders in elevators must be masked.
  • Per State mandate, after move-in, only residents of a building and building staff will be permitted to enter that building.

o   AFTER UNLOADING: Once you have unloaded, you may park in designated spaces in the Hopkins Parking Structure for the duration of the move-in process.

  • Parking is free at UC-San Diego on the weekends of September 11-12 and 18-19 (with the exception of reserved spots).
  • There is no parking grace period prior to the beginning of the quarter. Permits must be obtained HERE when parking on campus the weekdays. Day permits can be purchased at the Hopkins Parking Structure.
  • Please note that areas of the campus will be very congested with move-in traffic, especially during the weekends, so expect some delays and/or limited accessibility to parking adjacent to the living areas.

We all understand that times are uncertain right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but one thing is for sure: The health and wellness of our community depends on us supporting each other. As you move in and participate in the academic year, please always remember to take care, be kind, and stay safe.

If you plan to cancel your housing contract prior to move-in, you must log in and cancel it on the Housing Portal

Post Move-In precautions

PHASE I and PHASE II Protocol - Post Move-in precautions

o   Because SARS-CoV- 2, the virus which causes COVID-19, may not result in an infection for up to 14 days after an exposure and because many may not develop symptoms when infected and are potentially infectious to others, all residents agree to a Phase I and Phase II protocol upon move-in.

  • Phase I requires an in-person COVID test prior to move-in;
    • Additional self-administered tests are required on Day 5 and 10 after moving in.
  • During Phase I, masking in residential units (suites and apartments) is required at all times;
    • Except in one’s personal bedroom or while in the shower.
  • All undergraduate residential unit will move to Phase II on the same date;
    • Phase II will be announced after all testing requirements are completed, results are available and conditions on campus and San Diego indicate this can be done safely.
  • In Phase II, residents will no longer be required to mask within their suite or apartment. Complete your daily symptom screen daily.
  • If at any time you develop symptoms you will need to retest for COVID-19.  Should you test positive, you will be moved to isolation housing on campus until you recover and can return to your residential unit;

o   Whether in Phase I or II, students are not allowed to visit other residential units, and visitors and guests are not allowed in residential buildings.

o   We implement the Phase I and Phase II Protocol to minimize the chance of any resident inadvertently introducing virus into the community or residential unit (your suite or apartment).

  • During Phase I and Phase II you’ll be meeting with your RA to discuss other ways you and your fellow residents can keep your community safe and secure.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Q: Will residential students be assigned housing based on vaccination status?
    1. A: Housing assignments will not be based on vaccination status. The scientific modeling demonstrates a higher risk of viral infections on campus if unvaccinated students are housed together. Roommates/apartments/suitemates should not ask one another of their vaccination status. We will not be entertaining any room moves based on a student’s roommate’s known or unknown vaccination status.
  2. Q: What if my roommate is not vaccinated?
    1. A: The science modeling has shown that there is a low risk of transmission if vaccinated and unvaccinated students are roomed together; and housing all unvaccinated students solely together would increase risk of infections.
  3. Q: What can I expect at move-in?
    1. A: Upon arrival in the fall, residents agree to a Phase I and Phase II protocol. Phase I requires an in-person COVID test prior to move-in, with additional tests on Day 5 and 10 after moving in. During this Phase, distancing and masking in residential units (suites and apartments) is required at all times (except in one’s personal bedroom or while in the shower). All undergraduate residential units will move to Phase II on the same date, (to be announced after all testing requirements are completed, results are available and conditions on campus and in San Diego indicate this can be done safely.) In Phase II, residents will no longer be required to mask within their suite or apartment.
  4. Q: Can I change rooms if my roommate/suitemate/apartment-mate is not vaccinated?
    1. A: HDH will not consider any room assignment changes based on a resident’s known or perceived vaccination status. Roommates/apartment-mates/suitemates should not ask one another of their vaccination status.
  5. Q: What if I don’t agree with the protocols/policies in place for move-in or roommate matching?
    1. A: Prior to move-in, if a student does not agree with the masking policy, visitation policy, roommate assignment, and/or other Return to Learn Policies, they have the ability to cancel their housing contract.   If you plan to cancel your housing contract prior to move-in, you must log in and cancel it on the Housing Portal (Visit the Housing Contracts page; Click on the Housing Portal and login with your campus credentials).
