Student Orientation Staff Recruitment and Hiring

Every year Warren College hires enthusiastic students who are team players and are eager to be campus leaders to assist with our Orientation programs.  We want all types of students from all majors.  If you have Warren pride, a friendly attitude, want to share your experience with new students, and are ready to explore what it means to be a leader you might be ready to join the Orientation team.


    Warren College is now hiring 2017 Orientation Assistants.  Application Materials must be submitted to the Warren College Student Affairs Office before 12:00 pm on April 21.


    Orientation Interns

    Orientation Interns work with the Warren College Orientation Coordinators to coordinate the logistics of the Orientation programs.  Interns assist with communications, publications, hiring and training of Orientation Leaders and Assistants, and working with the Parent Orientation Programs.  Preference is given to students who have experience working with the Warren College Orientation Program.

    Orientation Intern Application and Interview Process

    We are no longer accepting applications for the 2017 positions.

    Submit resume indicating work and co-curricular involvement, cover letter, and 1 letter of recommendation to the Warren College Student Affairs office in the Warren College Administration building (EBU3B), room 1148 no later than 12:00 pm December 9, 2016.

    Orientation Intern Position Qualifications

    • Must be able to attend ALL training and Orientation session dates
    • Must be registered UC undergraduate student
    • Must pay UCSD student services fees each quarter working (Spring UCSD student services fees to work summer).
    • Preference given to students with good conduct and in good academic standing
    • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under pressure
    • Preference given to students with prior Orientation experience (e.g. Orientation Leader, Orientation Assistant, etc.)
    • Must be able to communicate effectively, function as a team member and display an awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity
    • Must have an overall commitment to Warren College
    • Must be available to work irregular hours and on all dates indicated in job description
    • Must have knowledge of Warren College and the Warren College community.
    • Must be flexible and have ability to adapt readily and appropriately to the changing demands of a program, project or assignment
    • Must have experience leading/facilitating discussion and presenting information clearly and accurately
    • Must have knowledge of Warren College General Education requirements and UCSD graduation requirements as well as Warren College student activities and campus life.
    • Upon hire, must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. Original, unexpired supporting documents required. No photocopies accepted. No exceptions.

    2017 Required Dates for Orientation Interns

    Orientation Interns must be available to work all of the following dates to be eligible for the position

      Office Hours:

      • Winter Quarter: Ability to work up to 10 hours/wk in the Warren College Student Affairs Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm
      • Spring Quarter: Ability to work up to 15 hours/wk in the Warren College Student Affairs Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm
      • Fall Quarter: Ability to work up to 15 hours/wk in the Warren College Student Affairs Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm

      2017 Training Dates:

      • Intern Training - January 12, 2017
      • NODA Conference - February 24-26
      • OL Spring Training: April 10, 17, 24, and May 1 from 3:00-5:00 PM
      • Orientation Leader Retreat: April 10-May 7 (Saturday, time TBD)
      • June Training: June 19-21*
      • September Training: September 11-14*

      *June and September trainings are full-day requirements. Dates are approximate and may vary based on enrollment

      2017 Orientation Dates:

      • Freshman and Parent Orientation - June 22
      • Freshman and Parent Orientation - June 23
      • Transfer Orientation - September 15
      • Freshman and Parent Orientation - September 19
      • Orientation Backup Dates: September 18, 20, 25

      Orientation Leaders

      Orientation Leaders guide admitted students through several one-day orientation sessions throughout the summer, share their experiences in group and one-on-one settings, and help to prepare new students for success at UCSD. 

      Orientation Leader Application and Interview Process

      We are no longer accepting applications for the 2017 positions.

      1. Online Application - submit your contact information via our online form. This lets us know who you are and to expect your written application.
      2. Written Application - the written application is designed to better inform us about your background, work history, academic pursuits, interest and motivation for becoming an Orientation Leader.

      3. Group Interview Process - the Group Interview is a larger interview in which applicants will be evaluated on a series of exercises to identify Orientation Leader interpersonal skills.
      4. Individual Interview - after the group interview, selected applicants will be invited to meet with Orientation staff for an individual interview that focuses on the candidate’s experiences at UC San Diego and qualifications related to the position.

      No hiring decisions will be made until all interviews have been completed.

        Attend an Orientation Leader Information Session

        Information sessions are offered to give applicants unfamiliar with the Orientation Leader interview process a chance to learn more. At information sessions, applicants can interact with professional and student staff who work with the Orientation program to get questions answered and learn firsthand about the benefits that come with being an Orientation Leader.

        Orientation Assistants

        Orientation Assistants coordinate the logistics of the Warren College Orientation Programs including materials preparation, registration, presenter support, and campus tour coordination.

        Orientation Assistant Application and Interview Process

        2017 Orientation Assistant application materials are due before 12:00 pm on April 21.
