Student Orientation Staff Recruitment and Hiring

Every year Warren College hires enthusiastic students who are team players and are eager to be campus leaders to assist with our Orientation programs.  We want all types of students from all majors.  If you have Warren pride, a friendly attitude, want to share your experience with new students, and are ready to explore what it means to be a leader you might be ready to join the Orientation team.

Orientation Interns

Orientation Interns work with the Warren College Orientation Coordinator to organize the logistics of the Orientation programs.  Interns assist with communications, publications, catering, hiring and training of Orientation Leaders and Assistants, and working with the Student and Family Orientation Programs.  Preference is given to students who have experience working with the Warren College Orientation Program.

Application Process:

  • Comple the Student Affairs Employment form
  • Submit resume indicating work and cocurricular involvement
  • Submit cover letter indicating why you are interested in this position
  • Submit one (1) letter of recommendation

Applications are due by 12:00 PM on Friday, November 15, 2019.  Applicants may deliver materials to Warren College Student Affairs, Room 1148 or email to wow@ucsd.edu.

Orientation Intern Position Qualifications

  • Must be able to attend ALL training and Orientation session dates
  • Must be registered UC undergraduate student
  • Must pay UCSD student services fees each quarter working (Spring UCSD student services fees to work summer).
  • Preference given to students with good conduct and in good academic standing
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and InDesign
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Preference given to students with prior Orientation experience (e.g. Orientation Leader, Orientation Assistant, etc.)
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, function as a team member and display an awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity
  • Must have an overall commitment to Warren College
  • Must be available to work irregular hours and on all dates indicated in job description
  • Must have knowledge of Warren College and the Warren College community.
  • Must be flexible and have ability to adapt readily and appropriately to the changing demands of a program, project, or assignment
  • Must have experience leading/facilitating discussion and presenting information clearly and accurately
  • Must have knowledge of Warren College General Education requirements and UCSD graduation requirements as well as Warren College student activities and campus life.
  • Upon hire, must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. Original, unexpired supporting documents required. No photocopies accepted. No exceptions.

2020 Required Dates for Orientation Interns

Orientation Interns must be available to work all of the following dates to be eligible for the position

Office Hours:

  • Winter Quarter: Ability to work up to 12 hours/week in the Warren College Student Affairs Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm
  • Spring Quarter: Ability to work up to 15 hours/week in the Warren College Student Affairs Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm
  • Summer: Ability to work up to 18 hours/week in the Warren College Student Affairs Office between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm

2020 Training Dates:

  • Intern Training - Winter Quarter week 2
  • OL Spring Training: Spring Quarter weeks 1-5 - Wednesdays,  3:00-5:00 PM
  • NODA Conference: February 21-23
  • All-College Senior Leaders Training - Wnter Quarter 8 or Spring Quarter Week 1 or 2 (Final Date TBD) 
  • Orientation Leader Retreat: April 11, 18 or 25 (Final Date TBD) 
  • September Training: September 14-17*

*September trainings are full-day requirements. Dates are approximate and may vary based on program enrollment

  • First-Year and Family Orientation - September 23
  • First-Year and Family Orientation - September 24
  • First-Year and Family Orientation - September 28
  • Transfer Orientation - September 25
  • Orientation Backup Dates: September 22

Orientation Leaders

Orientation Leaders guide admitted students through several one-day orientation sessions throughout the summer, share their experiences in group and one-on-one settings, and help to prepare new students for success at UCSD.

Attend an Orientation Leader Information Session

Information sessions are offered to give applicants unfamiliar with the Orientation Leader interview process a chance to learn more. At information sessions, applicants can interact with professional and student staff who work with the Orientation program to get questions answered and learn firsthand about the benefits that come with being an Orientation Leader.

  • Thursday, January 9 | 11:00 am-2:00 pm on Library Walk - Undergraduate Colleges Join the Legacy Table
  • Thursday, January 9 | 4:30-5:30 pm in Earl's Transfer and Commuter Commons (Warren Administration Building)

Orientation Assistants

Orientation Assistants coordinate the logistics of the Warren College Orientation Programs including materials preparation, registration, presenter support, and campus tour coordination.
