Qualifications

Our Warren College Orientation Team is a diverse group of current students from across the country and abroad. We are compassionate leaders pursuing a wide variety of majors and involved in many student organizations at Warren College and UC San Diego.

  • Current registered and enrolled UC San Diego Warren College undergraduate student with good conduct record and in good academic standing
  • Must pay UC San Diego student services fees each quarter working (Spring 2024 UC San Diego student services fees to work Summer 2024)
  • Must be able to manage time effectively, work well under pressure, communicate clearly, function well as a team member, and display an awareness of and sensitivity to cultural diversity
  • Must have experience leading and facilitating discussion groups and presenting information clearly and accurately
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to adapt readily and professionally to the changing demands of a program, project, or assignment

Work Schedule & Mandatory Dates

All dates listed below are TENTATIVE and subject to change.

 

Orientation Interns hold regular office hours between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

  • 5-15 hours per week in Winter Quarter
  • 5-15 hours per week in Spring Quarter
  • 15-20 hours per week during the Summer
  • Up to 40 hours the week of Orientation

Training and Warren College Orientation dates are mandatory for all student staff.

Orientation Leader Training begins Spring quarter every Even week Wednesday from 3-4:5PM

    • Wednesday, Week 2: 3 - 4:50 pm
    • Wednesday, Week 4: 3 - 4:50 pm
    • All College Training Saturday, May 4th: 9 am-6 pm
    • Wednesday, Week 6: 3 - 4:50 pm
    • Wednesday, Week 8: 3 - 4:50 pm
    • Wednesday, Week 10: 3 - 4:50 pm

 

Other Mandatory Dates

  • All-Colleges Orientation Leader Retreat: Saturday, May 4
  • Virtual Summer Training June-July: TBA as needed
  • Orientation Part I: August 5 - August 30 (virtual)
  • OL Move-In (on campus): Friday, September 13 (Tentative)
  • Fall Orientation Leader Training: September 14 - September 17
  • Orientation Part III & Welcome Week: September 18 - September 25

Orientation Assistant Training begins late summer, 3-4 weeks before the start of fall quarter

Student Paid Positions

Orientation Interns

Compensation is $18/per hour

Orientation Interns (OIs) are creative problem solvers, enthusiastic team players, and Warren College student leaders. Interns support the development and implementation of the Warren College Orientation programs and processes. Interns provide work direction, develop training schedules and activities, and serve as leaders and resources for Orientation Leaders (OLs) and Orientation Assistants (OAs).

Interns support the development of marketing materials, social media and communications, logistics and event planning, and training and development of Orientation Leaders and Assistants.

Preference for Orientation Intern positions are given to students with prior experience working with the Warren College Orientation Team.

 

Orientation Leaders

Compensation is $17/per hour 

Orientation Leaders (OLs) are energetic, inclusive, team players. OLs work closely with new first-year and transfer students to welcome and orient them to the Warren College family and UC San Diego Triton community.

OLs are social media savvy with demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. OLs serve as a peer resource for new students. They guide new students through Warren College New Student Orientation and facilitate small group discussions and activities for members of their OL groups. OLs share their student experiences, helpful tips, and important campus information.

Ideal candidates are current Warren College students interested in developing their public speaking, inclusive communication, and compassionate leadership skills. OLs work well in team settings and individually.

 

Orientation Assistants

Compensation is around $17/per hour

Orientation Assistants (OAs) prepare Orientation program materials, lead technical set up and provide technical support, coordinate Orientation program logistics, and collect and compile program evaluation data.

Ideal candidates are current Warren College students with demonstrated inclusive communication and organization skills.
