Parent and Family Orientation Program

Congratulations on your student's acceptance to UC San Diego and Warren College. To aid in the adjustment to this new phase, we invite you to attend the Parent and Family Orientation Program. This optional program prepares parents, guardians, and guests of new students for the personal adjustments that come with sending a child to college and the transitions your student will experience at Warren College. Your support of your student's education is critical to their success. This Warren College Orientation website contains links to help you and your student understand and navigate the University.

Registration for the 2020 Orientation program will open in mid-May 2020.  You may only register for the Parent and Family program AFTER your student has registered for the First Year Orientation Program.

Parent and Family Orientation Registration Information

Registration for the Parent and Family Orientation Program is separate from student registration.

If you have not completed a registration form, paid via credit card, and received a confirmation receipt, you are not registered to attend the Parent and Family Orientation Program. For more information on your registration status, contact the Warren College Orientation staff at

Parents, guardians, and guests of new students are not able to register for the Parent and Family Orientation program until AFTER your student has completed the online enrollment process and registered for their First Year Orientation Program.  As part of the registration process, your student will be asked to provide an email address for a parent/guardian to which an invitation and unique link to the parent registration site that coincides with their orientation program will be sent.  After your child registers for Orientation:

  1. You will receive a link inviting you to register for the Parent and Family Orientation program that corresponds to your student
  2. You will be able to submit information for up to TWO parents, guardians, or guests (over 18 years of age) per student.  Students are NOT able to register you for Orientation as part of their registration - it is a separate process.
  3. Your registration is complete once you have submitted all of your information, paid the $80/person program fee via credit card, and received a confirmation - we encourage you to register your email with our registration site so that you may make any changes to your registration.

If you do not receive an electronic invitation after your student has registered for Orientation, ask your student which email address they submitted via the registration system.  Due to space limitations, we are only able to accommodate two parents, guardians, or family members per student and no siblings or other family members. On-site registration will not be available.

Note: If your student changes their Orientation session date parents and guardians who are signed up for the corresponding Parent and Family Orientation session will NOT be automatically moved into the new session. BE SURE anyone registered for a session logs back into RegOnline to change their session date.

Orientation Fee Information

Parents will be required to pay for the per person Orientation fee via credit card before registration can be confirmed.  Students receive their Orientation fee via their student bill in August or October.  Students are not able to pay their Orientation fees via credit card.  Parents and family members are not able to charge their Orientation fees to their students' bill.

Information for International Families

International Student Orientation

All new international students (including transfer students from other U.S. schools) must attend a separate optional international student orientation session offered by the International Students and Programs Office. This session DOES NOT replace the Warren College Orientation session but is designed to be a compliment to the program at your home College and provide you with more specific information regarding international student services.  For more information about the international student orientation sessions contact the International Students and Programs Office directly.

The International Students and Programs Office in collaboration with the Parent and Family Programs Office offer an optional International Parent & Family Orientation program for parents and family members as well.

Local Hotel and Lodging Options

Lodging is not available through the Orientation Program.  All lodging accommodations must be made separately.

There are several options for hotel and housing options available in the San Diego area.  Visit the Triton Family Destinations website for a list of UCSD's local hotel partners.

Travel and Parking Impacts Due to Construction

A variety of regional transportation projects will be occurring at and around UC San Diego over the next few years. While these projects will greatly improve transportation and transform the way we access our campus when completed, they may cause delays as you travel to your Orientation program. Major construction impacts are expected on Gilman Drive and the I-5/Genesee Avenue Interchange - both of which are considered main entrances to the UCSD campus.

We encourage Orientation participants to take construction into consideration as you make plans to arrive on campus for your program. During construction, motorists are urged to slow down and all travelers are encouraged to give themselves more time and anticipate possible traffic delays. For updated information on construction plans, visit
